This is one of the busiest days of the year in Disney World. So it doesn’t really come as a surprise when Magic Kingdom has to close due to crowd levels.
As of right now, Magic Kingdom is not welcoming new guests. If you are in the park, you’re fine, so I wouldn’t leave if you want to be there later for fireworks. The other three theme parks are fine and are still open to all guests. If you are not at Magic Kingdom, I wouldn’t go anywhere near that park. From what I have seen online there is a long lineup of cars by the Magic Kingdom tolls and they won’t be able to get in.
There is a number you can call to check on the theme park closures. The number is 407-560-5000. The recording currently says:
“We are experiencing a very busy day at Magic Kingdom park and anticipate being able to welcome more guests later. We invite you to visit Hollywood Studios, Epcot, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, which are available to all guests. Please check back periodically for up-to-date theme park availability. Thank you and have a magical day.”
Hopefully, the park will be able to open to more guests later in the day, but we will see. If you are in Disney World now, and were planning to go to Magic Kingdom later today, I would keep that phone number and call it throughout the day.
Also, keep in mind that the Cast Members are working extra hard to make magic for people in the parks on such crowded days. I can’t imagine working with these kind of crowd levels and I give them a lot of credit for keeping it together. Please be kind and understanding, as they are doing their best to keep everyone happy.
Have you ever been in a Disney park that closed due to capacity?
Thanks for reading!

Gotta ask: Does this mean if you are staying in the park and you already have your tickets you can’t get in to Magic Kingdom or are you just keeping the people out who are driving in for the day?
Happy New Year Liz!
Happy New Year Debbie!
Disney has different phases for closures. Only the last phase will turn away everyone, including Disney Resort hotel guests with dining reservations. On really busy days it’s always best to check with Cast Members and check the My Disney Experience app. Disney announced this closure in the app with a popup, which was helpful for those staying on property.
