Disney has been working on the Skyliner for a while now and the excitement has been building for guests as they see the gondolas being tested. Lots of people have been wondering when they would be able to try out the Skyliner and now we have an opening date.
Disney has announced that the gondolas will start transporting guests on September 29, 2019. So that means we are a little over two months away from being able to ride in a gondola! It’s nice to finally have a date and I know a lot of people are going to be excited to try this new form of transportation on Disney World property. Check out Disney’s video below for a closer look at the gondolas.
The Disney Skyliner system will connected Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four of Disney’s Resort hotels: Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, and Disney’s newest resort set to open in December 2019, the Riviera Resort. A lot of the gondolas have fun theming to them with different Disney characters depicted on them. You may get lucky and ride in a gondola with character designs on the outside.
Character Designs Include:
- Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Chip & Dale
- Coco
- Goofy, Pete, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow
- Finding Dory
- Haunted Mansion
- Monsters, Inc.
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Ratatouille
- And more!
Are you excited for the opening of the Disney Skyliner? Will you ride in a gondola?
Thanks for reading!

We saw them testing this spring and they move faster than I thought they would. We will try them out next spring when we go back. Hopefully any “new ride” kinks will be worked out by then. I will reserve judgement on the lack of A/C until I take a ride and see for myself! They should give great views!
Hi Liz! Skyliner looks awesome!.. Hey I have a question, Disney world’s 50th anniversary is oct 2021. How long will the 50th celebration be? Will it end in October 2022? Thanks
Hi Vito!
I’m sure the celebration will be a long one, I’m just not sure yet what the dates will be. I’ll definitely post about it when I hear! 🙂
