Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of the most popular events at Disney World. Guests look forward to attending these parties every year. So it’s good news that Disney has announced the dates for 2020!
The 2020 dates for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are:
- August 13, 18, 21, 25 and 28
- September 1, 4, 7, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27 and 29
- October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29 and 31
- November 1
There are so many things to do at these parties, which is why it’s one of the most popular events. Plus, the park is decorated with fun Halloween decor and there are special effects on certain rides. Main Street U.S.A. has “spooky” sounds playing and the pumpkins light up and flicker, like they have candles in them. It’s a fun time and it’s good to know everything Disney offers at these parties so you can make a plan before you go.
Trick-or-Treating
Guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up and go trick-or-treating around the parks, and Disney does not skimp on the amount of candy they give out. If you go trick-or-treating at this party you will be coming home with a crazy amount of candy. The cast members give out handfuls of candy at each station and they also give out tokens for sugar free/allergy friendly candy that are available at specific spots in the parks.
There are guidelines for costumes, so keep that in mind when planning your costume. Below are the guidelines directly from Disney’s website.
GENERAL
- Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or could detract from the experience of other Guests.
- All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
- Costumes must:
- Be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
- Not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
- Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, the park unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.
GUESTS AGES 13 AND UNDER
- Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.
GUESTS AGES 14 AND OLDER
- Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
- Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)
- Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
- Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
- Acceptable accessories include: transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
- Masks of any kind may not be worn.
Character Meet and Greets
Along with trick-or-treating guests can meet characters that aren’t normally in the parks. The Seven Dwarfs and Jack Skellington and Sally are a couple of the meet and greets available during the party. Usually Moana is also meeting guests and she’s a big draw, because she doesn’t meet outside of the parties either, unfortunately.
Rides
Rides are also open during this party. As long as the party isn’t sold out the lines should be fairly short for most of the rides. I did go to the opening party last year and it was insanely crowded for a special ticketed event, so rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train were still at a 60 minute wait for most of the night.
Keep in mind that not all the rides were open. Disney will usually release a list the closer it gets to the parties, but here are the rides and experiences that were open during the 2019 parties.

Shows and Parades
There are also some fun shows and a really popular parade that happens during the Halloween party. The Boo-to-You parade is something that a lot of people attending the parties look forward to seeing. It’s really cute!
Other favorites during the party include the Cadaver Dans (a spooky take on the Dapper Dans), a dance party for the little ones at Storybook Circus with Disney Junior characters, special Magic Shots just for the party, and specialty food, drinks, and merchandise just for the party.
It’s a good idea to have a plan of the things you really want to do before you to to the party. That way you know what you want to do and you can maximize your time at the party. Keep in mind that they let party guests in early with the party tickets, usually around 4 pm, so you don’t have to buy a separate theme park ticket to get in. Early entry also lets you get in line early for the popular character meet and greets, so you won’t be spending most of your party time in line.
Are you excited for the Halloween party this year?
