Yesterday Disney World announced they will be closing the theme parks beginning March 16 through the end of the month. Today Disney added more information to that announcement regarding tickets, resorts, and dining reservations.
Regular Theme Park Tickets
As of right now, it doesn’t look like Disney World is giving refunds on regular theme park tickets purchased. Instead, they are extending the dates for guests who have unexpired multi-day tickets with unused days, or date-specific tickets. The extension is good until December 15, 2020. They go on to say that if it is not possible to visit before the extension date then the value of the unused tickets may be applied towards a future ticket purchase.
Special Event Tickets
Disney has stated that guests with special event tickets with dates that fall into the closure period (March 16 – March 31, 2020) will receive automatic refunds. These events include Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours, and Disney Early Morning Magic.
Annual Passes
Disney is extending the dates for annual passes, as well. The passes will be extended by the number of days of the parks closure, March 16 – March 31, 2o20.
Resorts
Guests who do not check-in to their resorts for stays between March 16 – March 31, 2020 can modify or cancel their reservation up to the original check-in date. If no action is taken then Disney will automatically refund the reservation to the original form of payment within seven days of the check-in date.
Disney also noted that they will waive change and cancellation fees, up to the date of check-in, through June 30, 2020.
Dining Reservations and Special Experiences
For pre-paid dining and experience reservations scheduled between March 16 – March31, 2020 Disney will automatically refund guests. In addition, reservations that are made at locations that are impacted by this closure will not be charged a cancellation or no-show fee.
Phone lines will be busy today, so keep that in mind if you are calling to make changes. Also, if your reservation isn’t until after March 31, I would hold off on calling for a few days. This gives Disney time to straighten out reservations that have check-in dates during the closure.
One other thing, I know there is a lot of disappointment for guests who need to cancel or reschedule their trip. However, please keep in mind that cast members have no control of the closure. It’s so disheartening to see cast members being yelled at for things they have no control over. Cast members are doing their best to help guests as quick as they can, which includes both call center cast members and cast members at Disney World.
Hopefully, the park closures will truly end on March 31, but I’ll keep you updated if Disney releases more information. They’re doing a pretty good job keeping people informed through all of this, which is encouraging.
