Taking a break from all the reopening news, Disney announced something else big today. Splash Mountain will be getting a new theme!
The ride, in both Disneyland and Disney World, will be redesigned after “The Princess and the Frog,” picking up after the final kiss in the movie. So guests will be taken on a musical adventure which will of course feature some of the great music from the move. The story is that they are preparing for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance, which I’m sure will be the end scene with the paddle boat, but reimagined for Mardi Gras. So it’s going to be a pretty colorful and upbeat end scene. That last scene has always been my favorite, so I’m glad they’re redesigning it in such a fun way.
I’ll be honest, when I saw the announcement I was afraid to open it, because Splash Mountain is my favorite ride (more for that last drop than anything else). As long as they keep all those fun drops, I’m good. Plus, the artist rendering for one of the scenes looks beautiful! Take a look below.
Things are always changing at Disney and the Imagineers are always looking for ways to update the attractions. “The Princess and the Frog” was a fun movie with great music, so it’s nice to see the characters get their own ride.
Disney has not announced a timeline for this project yet, but I’ll update once they do. For now, try to get in as many rides with Brer Rabbit as you can!
Are you excited to see this new theming for Splash Mountain or will you miss the original design?
Thanks for reading!
Liz
I hate this move. Splash Mountain is our favorite ride for many reasons. We like the Princess and the Frog movie, but hate to lose Splash Mountain for it. We are thinking about a 1 day trip later this year just to say goodbye. On our trip last year my kids were able to get a picture with Brer Rabbit and get the new Brer Rabbit stuffed animal. They started selling Brer Bear and Brer Fox after we left. We were hoping to pick them up, but then Covid-19 happened. I read that everything Splash Mountain themed was being bought up at Disney Springs, so I am sure the Briar Patch will suffer the same fate. I just saw some of those new stuffed animals on ebay earlier for $300 each. Makes me sick!
Absolutely not excited. Another example of corporate pandering to extremists. As long as they keep giving in to their demands there will no end to them.
I agree.this isn’t the Disney I know. I accept change but this is crazy. What’s next? Hall of presidents? How about Epcot’s USA pavilion? The problem is the Disney family doesn’t seem to be involved anymore and walts dream is slowly dying. Disney was a place to get away from the real world a family Environment
Your absolutly right
I’m gutted my favourite ride. I understand needing to update old rides but it’s still so popular, it always has long queues. I’m from the UK so don’t think I’ll manage to have one last ride.
My 4 year old daughter had her first ride last year and absolutely loved it and thankfully she managed to get Brer Rabbit still enjoyable totally unnecessary.
Disney is making a wrong move! It’s my favorite ride and I am absolutely obsessed with splash mountain theres just something about it from the safety instructions to the end scene. All the fun memories where your soaked but your laughing about it. Everytime my family and I go we ride this tide like 5 times every night were there I hope to get 1 last ride in before it’s gone forever 🙁
I am so sad but a little excited I am absolutely obsessed with splash mountain but I love tiana and her gang
I’m cool with this. I really like Splash Mt. as it is but I am sure that whatever they produce with the retheming will be great! The actual ride track probably won’t change at all…it’s just a retheming like how they rethemed Maelstrom with Frozen Ever After. IMO, that was very well done.
Every Disney fan has a favorite song that speaks volumes to them. For me it’s Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah! I can’t imagine a Disney World without it! I’m sure it will still play in the park loop music but still
Don’t bet on the music staying. It’s still related to the song of the south so I’m sure it has to go too.
