Disney World is getting ready to celebrate their 50th anniversary later this year and there are sure to be lots of updates throughout the year of what guests can expect to see. Today Disney released some of those details and they involve the icons of all four theme parks.
Decorations were the topic of the news today, along with a newly coined word from Disney … “EARidescence,” which refers to the sparkle that guests will see with these decorations. To start, Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom will get an additional makeover, with gold bunting and a 50th anniversary crest. However, the castle isn’t the only park icon receiving some extra touches later this year.

The Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom will also come to life at night. Guests visiting Animal Kingdom in the evening will see magical fireflies light up the tree with beautiful colors. Over at Hollywood Studios the Hollywood Tower Hotel will also light up with colors, giving guests a beautiful sight at the end of Sunset Boulevard.

Epcot’s Spaceship Earth is getting some new lights all over and these lights will connect. The lights will resemble the stars in the sky at night and it looks like it’s going to be a really nice addition to this icon. The difference with the addition of lights here is that they will be permanent. So if you can’t make it for the 50th celebration, don’t worry, you will still be able to see this new light display during your next trip.

Another makeover for the anniversary includes Mickey and Minnie. These two will be getting fun new outfits to celebrate the 50th. Each character will be decked out in custom-made outfits with EARidescent fabric with gold highlights.
“The World’s Most Magical Celebration” begins October 1 and will last for 18 months, so there’s lots of time to visit and celebrate. I’m sure there will be lots of announcements throughout the year as we get closer and I’ll update as those updates are released. Can’t wait to see what else they have in store!
Are you planning to visit during the celebration?
Thanks for reading!

Yes we do we where there for the 25th
Lol….so we’re we. Somewhere I still have my 25th anniversary tee shirts!
So the 50th anniversary celebration does not start till October?
We were going to come this summer just for that, but with COVID…
So if we come after October for the next 18 months Disney will be celebrating this event….this is good! Maybe we will not miss it after all.
Will Disney online stores be selling 50th anniversary stuff?
Hope all is well with you!

Hi Debbie and Frank!
Yes, it sounds like the celebration won’t begin until October, but it will last for a year and a half. So there’s plenty of time to visit and see the decorations and other things they’ll be doing for the 50th.
I haven’t heard specifics about anniversary items being offered online, but I would imagine they would have a section on shopDisney for that.
Hope all is well with you too!
