Disney finally announced a return date for something that a lot of people have been waiting to see return. Guests can expect to see the Minnie Vans back in action on June 29!
These are the cute vehicles that used to be spotted around property. They’re red with white polk dots, just like Minnie’s dress. Official Walt Disney World cast members drive the Minnie Vans, so these are not regular Lyft drivers. Since it is cast members who drive, it’s always interesting to chat as you drive to your next location. Every time I have taken a Minnie Van I’ve had very informative conversations with cast members. One cast member told me about her time working at Animal Kingdom and she had some great stories. That’s not all though, they’ll answer almost any question you have regarding your time in Disney World; they work there so they know all the tips and tricks.
To schedule a Minnie Van ride, guests will need to download the Lyft app on their phone. Since Disney partnered with Lyft for this service it makes it much easier and streamlined, because the system was already in place. The Minnie Vans are a bit more expensive than taking a regular Lyft, so if you plan on taking them while in Disney I would factor in a fair amount of money for that into your budget.
I have found these vehicles particularly helpful when staying until park closing. Instead of waiting for a bus, it was worth it (for me, anyway) to take a Minnie Van back. One piece of advice if you decide to get a Minnie Van at the end of a park day, if possible, walk to the closet hotel. For instance, if you are at EPCOT, walk over to the Beach Club, Yacht Club, or BoardWalk, and take the Minnie Van from there. Doing it this way helps to avoid the huge crowds at the front of the park.
It can be a bit difficult at the end of the night to find a Minnie Van that’s available, so don’t wait until right when the park closes. Instead, try to book one 15 to 30 minutes before the park closes. The Minnie Van won’t be there right away, so this gives a little more time to enjoy the end of the day in the park.
As for the price, there isn’t a cost estimate available. Disney states on their website, “Use the Lyft app to see the total cost and pay for the service,” and, “Varies based on distance traveled from pickup location to requested destination within Walt Disney World Resort,” which makes sense. So we’ll have to wait and see what the cost is on the 29th. One important piece of information is the operating time. Minnie Van service will run daily from 6:30 am – 12:30 am, but of course the hours of operation are subject to change. Minnie Van service to and from the airport was not included in this announcement.
Are you excited for the return of the Minnie Vans?
