As of right now, Disney World is operating under normal conditions. They are monitoring the upcoming storm with Hurricane Milton closely and making decisions as necessary. One thing Disney World has announced is they are waiving cancelation fees for guests who have check-in dates this week.
If you have a stay booked directly through Disney Destinations, LLC or The Walt Disney Company, you can cancel your reservation without penalty, as long as your check-in date is sometime from October 6, 2024 to October 13, 2024. This will include guests who booked with travel agencies who booked them directly with Disney, as well. According to Disney, guests with reservations that fall within the above check-in time range, should be able to be cancel their reservations right online with no cancellation fee. If it shows a cancellation fee then I would give Disney a call to make sure that is refunded.
Some guests will need to call Disney World for assistance cancelling their reservation. Included in this group are those who have packages with air transportation and/or services that are offered by a third party, and those who have travel insurance on their Disney World vacation package. If you booked the trip yourself, and fall into this category, call the regular Disney World reservation booking phone number. For those who used a travel agent, your travel agent will take care of the cancellation for you.
Disney is asking those who do not have reservations this week to wait until after Thursday to call. The phone lines have been extremely busy over the last couple of days. The travel agent call queue was actually shut down for a bit yesterday so Disney could deal with the influx of calls coming in. So, if there is an issue that does not need immediate attention, I would wait until after Thursday to call. That way, you’re not dealing with extended wait times on the phone and Disney can focus on reservations that will be affected by the hurricane.
UPDATE: Disney has now said that Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9.
I will continue to update this post as Disney makes more announcements regarding Hurricane Milton.
If you are in the path of the hurricane I hope you remain safe!
