Autumn is here and it is the perfect weather for a good cup of tea. So what better way to enjoy a cup of tea than with my Mickey tea kettle? We have an electric tea kettle, but the Mickey one is so fun to use and I love the design of the kettle.
A close-up of the hidden Mickeys on the kettle.
As you can see from the picture, the design is a little more subtle than some other Mickey Mouse products. It is part of the Gourmet Mickey kitchen line on disneystore.com. Don’t get me wrong, I love the mouse, but all that red and yellow would be a bit much for me. When I looked on Disney’s website for a kettle like this, they had two different styles. This is the other style.
While it is very cute, I prefer the subtle touches of Mickey. The Gourmet Mickey tea kettle is not available right now, but they do have this style, which I believe is called the Best of Mickey Collection. They do have other Gourmet Mickey products on the website, so they will probably get the tea kettle in again. I would think at least around Christmas they would restock them.
So, is it a good tea kettle? I like it. I mean, it’s not as good as a handcrafted tea kettle, but it doesn’t take long to heat up (when the heat is on high) and it keeps the water warm for a while after you take it off the burner. The paint has held up nicely too and I have had it since February.
The top of the kettle is a tight fit, to keep the heat in, so it can be tricky to get it closed sometimes. There are three points along the side of the top that are raised and you have to make sure all three of those points “snap” down. I’ve started to boil water and realized that the top is only partially “snapped” down and then I just take it off and make sure everything lines up and it is completely on. The top of the kettle also has a cute Mickey icon on it. Still understated, not in-your-face Disney.
Something else to note, the handle does not fold down. Not a big deal, but if you like handles that can fold down, just be aware this one does not do that.

Mickey tops the kettle. So cute!
The spout of the kettle is not spring loaded. It will stay open once you open it, which is nice because you don’t have to keep holding it. It can get hot, so just be careful when opening it.

Now, for my favorite part. You know how most tea kettles give off the high pitched whistle when they are ready? This kettle doesn’t exactly follow that tradition.
Of course they would make it sound like a train! Walt had such an interest in trains, I think he even had one in his back yard (how much fun would that be?!). So it makes perfect sense for it to have a train whistle instead of the high pitched, traditional whistle.
I looked on Amazon and the kettle is available…for $61.97. I like the kettle, but it’s not worth $62. So, if you are interested in purchasing the kettle, I would recommend watching disneystore.com for them to restock it. I’m sure they will get it back in at some point. The price on Disney’s website is $39.95 plus s + h. The holidays are coming up, so you can always put it on your wishlist!
Off to enjoy my cup of tea now.
