Picture of the Day: Souvenir Penny Machine

Today’s Picture of the Day comes from the World of Disney in Disney Springs.

Disney World has the souvenir penny machines all over property. Not only will you see a bunch at the resort hotels, but you will find them all over each of the four parks, Disney Springs, and other locations in Disney World.

This has become one of our favorite ways to collect souvenirs during our trips. My husband started this tradition with our daughter when she was two and she loved being able to pick which penny she was going to press. We ended up getting her a little penny book when we returned home and she couldn’t wait to go back to Disney so she could collect more pennies.

The next trip we took she was four and just as excited about the pennies. Now we were prepared though. We made sure to pack rolls of quarters and rolls of pennies for the trip. Once we got to the hotel the hunt was on for the souvenir penny machines. She definitely got a lot more than the first trip, but she’s once again looking forward to returning to Disney World to add more pennies to her book. She was having so much fun with it that the kids in the family we travel with started collecting the pennies too! It has become a pretty popular souvenir for our traveling party.

I love that this is one of her favorite souvenirs, because there are so many to choose from and it’s inexpensive. So if all she wants for a souvenir are the pennies, that’s fine with us. There are so many different styles that it is going to take a very long time for her to collect them all. Plus, this is a great boredom reliever. So if we’re killing time until a reservation or checking out a store and one of the kids starts getting a little restless we can go in search of the closest penny machine. Those penny machines will usually put them in a better mood.

Disney does sell pressed penny books there and the books have a space for pressed quarters too. You will find some pressed quarter machines around property as well, but they obviously cost a little more. We usually stick with the pressed penny machines.
