This weekend is Marathon weekend in Disney World. The half marathon and the full marathon are supposed to happen this weekend, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
My friend, and fellow Main Street Wishes blogger, Maureen texted me to let me know that the half marathon was cancelled for tomorrow. She has a friend who is in Disney World who was going to be running and she got the news that due to thunderstorms with the threat of lightening they had to cancel the race. This includes the kids races.
That is really unfortunate for those that went down there to run the race. Of course, you are still in Disney World so at least you are in a fun place and Disney has given options to those who were signed up to run the half marathon. Runners signed up for the half will get their medal and can also choose one of these as compensation:
- A full refund in the form of a Disney gift card.
- Two One-Day Park Hopper tickets.
- Defer registration to another runDisney half marathon race in the U.S. within the next 24 months, subject to availability.
- There is limited availability for the full marathon on Sunday, so some people can sign up for that as long as there is still room.
Kids who were signed up for the Kids Race will get their medal and a refund for the registration cost in the form of a Disney gift card.
The full marathon is still on for Sunday. So if you are or someone you know is running the race, don’t worry, it’s still happening.
Marathon weekend is such a fun weekend. My friend, and also a fellow Main Street Wishes blogger, Steph ran the Goofy a few years ago and she said it is one of her favorite races. Running through the castle was definitely one of the highlights. Plus, there are characters along the routes that you can stop and take pictures with and continue on your way.

I’m signed up for the Dopey Challenge and was supposed to run the half-marathon with my Mom; such a disappointment. Now I don’t know what will happen as far as my Challenge goes!
That stinks Pamela! They’re still giving people the half medals, so I would imagine you will still get the Dopey medal. The whole thing is such a bummer for all the runners signed up for the half. I hope you and your mom can find something magical to do today to take away the disappointment!
