The latest Disney World rumor has to do with guest transportation on property. This rumor has definitely gained some steam over the last 24 hours.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, plans filed this week show improvements Disney wants to make to their property. The elevation of the buildings (100 ft) and the designs of the buildings are what started the cable car rumor. The plans were filed by the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is a government agency controlled by Disney.
Years ago there was a Skyway in the Magic Kingdom, but it was removed in 1999. It would definitely be fun to see something like this return as a way to shuttle guests around property. Plus, it would help ease the traffic situations in the area.
News 13 in Florida reports that the areas of interest include improvements near Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Caribbean Beach Resort. It would be so much fun to travel between parks by cable car, or to be able to catch a cable car from your resort! Epcot and Hollywood Studios are perfectly situated to be connected by cable cars and Caribbean Beach is in that area too. They are in pretty close proximity to each other on Disney property.
It would make sense for Disney to find a way to keep people off the roads. The additions of new lands in Animal Kingdom and Hollywood are sure to increase traffic on property. Pandora – The World of Avatar opens in Animal Kingdom May 27. Hollywood Studios will see the opening of Star Wars Land in 2019 and Toy Story Land is also under construction in Hollywood Studios.
A lot of Disney rumors turn out to be true and hopefully this one is no different. Imagine being able to go from one park to another via cable car! However, it’s fair to say that with these kinds of improvements there will probably be some price increases around Disney World.
Disney has not said whether the rumor is true or not. This is the response given to the Orlando Sentinel when asked about the cable car project:
“At any given time, we have numerous projects in various stages of development across our resort,” the company said in an emailed statement. “If a project moves forward, we will share details when it makes sense to do so for our business.”
The statement from Disney does not confirm or deny the cable car rumor. So, fans can still hold out hope the the rumor is true. We will report any updates announced to this project.
Do you think cable cars would be a good addition to Disney World?

My husband and I were at Disney World when the Skyway was there and remember it fondly.
We have discussed this, and really do not see any reason why you would want to bring it back.
What are you going to see besides all the people walking around, the tops of the buildings?
And although I know that Disney World would make a ride like that as safe as they could possibly get it, there are always people doing something stupid, so why chance it.
We think that Disney World was meant to be seen from the ground, with the exception of the people over ride.
Connecting the parks with a cable car, sorry but don’t think that is needed either.
