Disney has made a change to the complimentary MagicBand offering that has come with a Disney World Passholder membership. The change will take effect this coming August.
Starting August 16, 2021 MagicBands will no long be included with the purchase or renewal of a Disney World Passholder membership. However Annual Passholder (AP) members will still be able to receive their membership discounts and that includes a discount on MagicBands.
Disney cites the new MagicMobile Digital Pass as the reason for the change. This service allows guests to store the pass right on their phone and multiple passes can be stored on the same device. This was explained to current AP members through an email (and thank you to my friend Melissa for sharing the email with me!).
Disney has been moving to use their app and digital services more over the past few years, so this doesn’t come as a total surprise. I’m happy to see the AP option is sticking around in Disney World, since Disneyland has ended their AP program.
In all honesty, for me, a complimentary MagicBand wouldn’t make or break my decision on whether to purchase an Annual Pass, but it’s definitely a nice extra that’s been included for years. The good thing is AP members still get a discount, which is a nice perk to use while dining and shopping in Disney World.
