It was recently announced that the Disney Skyliner will open sometime next fall, which is around the same time that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Hollywood Studios (late fall 2019). The new gondola system will have five stops on property, connecting four resort hotels and two theme parks.
The towers have been up for a bit now and the cables have started to go up between the towers, as construction continues on this highly anticipated new transportation option. During my latest visit to Disney World I stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which is one of the resorts to be connected to the Disney Skyliner.
You can’t miss the towers that are on the resort hotel property, with some situated right between the hotel room buildings. If I’m being honest, the towers sort of ruin the landscape of the hotel right now, but I’m sure that will change once the system is running and the gondolas can be seen from the hotel. That will be pretty cool for resort hotel guests.
Also on the Caribbean Beach property are the gondola stations. The one by Caribbean Beach was pretty big and the one by the still-under-construction Riviera Resort is not quite as big. Both stations are still being worked on. However, they did start putting some cables up, so it looks like it’s coming along nicely.
Over at Hollywood Studios, which has recently opened their new entrance for vehicles, the cables are all up on the the towers in the parking lot. The gondola station is still under construction, but just like the one at Caribbean Beach, it’s coming along nicely.
One Cast Member I spoke with expressed surprise that it wasn’t opening until the fall. Initially they had heard it would open in the spring of 2019. I’m sure this has more to do with safety than anything else. The project looks like it’s pretty far along, so I’m sure they just want to do extensive testing to make sure everything is safe for guest use.
When finished, Disney’s Skyliner will have five different stops. It will connect four different resorts and two of the four theme parks on property.
Skyliner Station Locations
- Epcot (International Gateway)
- Hollywood Studios
- Caribbean Beach Resort
- Riviera Resort (still under construction)
- Art of Animation and Pop Century (these two hotels will share a station)
No date, other than fall 2019, has been released. We will update as more information is announced.
Are you excited for this new transportation system on Disney World property?
