Disney World has been going through quite a few changes recently. In addition to all the changes around the parks, now there will be a change coming to how you purchase tickets.
Just announced today, Disney said date-based pricing will be making its way to Disney World on October 16. What does this mean? Well, it means that the cost of tickets will be different depending on what time of year you go. Once you figure out when you want to visit the parks then you will pick a start date for the tickets. The amount of time you have to use the tickets will depend on the length of the tickets, but the valid use period has shrunk for all of the tickets except 10-day tickets. See the list below.
Ticket Duration | Valid Use Period |
1-Day Ticket | Only on the start date selected |
2-Day Ticket | Any 2 days within 4 days beginning on the start date |
3-Day Ticket | Any 3 days within 5 days beginning on the start date |
4-Day Ticket | Any 4 days within 7 days beginning on the start date |
5-Day Ticket | Any 5 days within 8 days beginning on the start date |
6-Day Ticket | Any 6 days within 9 days beginning on the start date |
7-Day Ticket | Any 7 days within 10 days beginning on the start date |
8-Day Ticket | Any 8 days within 12 days beginning on the start date |
9-Day Ticket | Any 9 days within 13 days beginning on the start date |
10-Day Ticket | Any 10 days within 14 days beginning on the start dat |
Since the valid use period depends on the start date, make sure your start date is a day that you plan to visit a park, which might not necessarily be the day you arrive at your hotel. For example, if you arrive on the 6th, but aren’t planning to go to the parks until the 7th, then your start date will be the 7th. Disney posted a video to help explain it and I’ve included it below.
If you have already purchased your tickets then this will not pertain to you until your next trip. Also, if your dates change you will be able to modify your tickets before the start date. However, keep in mind that if you change your dates to a cheaper time of year there is no refund for the price change.
Disney is keeping their philosophy of the “More you Play, the Less you Pay Per Day.” So the longer the length of the ticket the less you will pay per day, just like now.
Beginning October 16 guests will be able to see the price of tickets for different days. There will also be a feature to look for the least expensive time of year. That will be a helpful feature!
We will keep you posted with any additional info Disney releases about this new pricing system.
What do you think of this change?
Thanks for reading!

Liz ,how does this effect annual pass holders , if at all? As always thanks for info.
Hi Dennis!
I don’t think this is going to do anything to Annual Passes, at least Disney didn’t mention that it would.
Liz you can correct me if I am wrong, but:
So for example at Christmas time, tickets will be more because it is a holiday?
If so, families will have a more difficult time saving money to come if they want to come at Christmas.
So is Disney trying to eleminate crowds at these times or make more money at these times. I feel like if you want to go at a certain time you will be penalized by having to pay more.
If I am understanding this all right, why can’t Disney just have the same prices for everyone?
Sorry, this all does not sound good to me.
Debbie
PS: Liz, thanks for all your information!
Hi Debbie!
I don’t know for sure that tickets around Christmas time will be more, but I think that’s a safe bet. I’m guessing this is Disney trying to space out the crowds throughout the year and also in preparation for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next year.
So, the times of year when kids are off from school might end up being more (kind of like how the airlines charge more for tickets at those times of year), but I haven’t seen any specific pricing info yet so I can’t say for sure. It’s starting on October 16 and I’m definitely taking a look that day to see.
If you know you want to go at some point next year, I would book your package now so you lock in the ticket pricing and length of use as they are right now.
And I’m happy to help! I’m glad you find the information useful! 🙂
