Guests who have trips planned in the next couple of months have been waiting to hear Disney’s decision on reopening. Today Disney answered that question.
Disney has announced on both U.S. parks’ websites that they will remain closed until further notice. This is in response to the fast spreading coronavirus and their attempt to help to stop the spread. Originally the parks were only going to be closed until the end of the month, but given the circumstances Disney has had to push that date to an unknown.
See the announcements below for both Disney World and Disneyland.
If you have a reservation planned during the closure period and don’t cancel it Disney will automatically cancel it. Whether you cancel or Disney cancels, they’ll refund you for the amount you have paid (minus any third party fees). The same is true for special event tickets and prepaid meals that were reserved for the time of the closure. If you purchased tickets separately for dates during the closure they will be automatically extended to use any date through December 15, 2020. If you can’t visit by the extended date Disney will let you apply the value of the wholly unused ticket toward the future purchase of a ticket.
These are crazy times right now. None of us ever thought we would see the day where Disney would close their parks for so long. I honestly have no idea when they will open again. I’m hoping for the summer, but that might just be wishful thinking.
What’s important right now though is that everyone stays safe and healthy. So while you are staying home watch lots of Disney movies, look at all your Disney pictures and videos from trips, and keep the magic going until the parks open. I wrote something up that lists ideas of how to bring the magic to you during this time, you can find that here. Check it out and see if there’s anything you want to try. 🙂
Thanks for reading and stay healthy!

We were holding out hope that our May trip would still happen, but seeing as how we are supposed to arrive on May 2, I just don’t see this settling down in time for things to reopen by then. Time to start figuring out a new week later in the year! I just hate that I am going to lose the great fast passes I already picked for this trip.
I hope everyone obeys the protocols and stays safe. I also hope people who are at risk do not rush back into public too soon once things start settling down and cause a flare up.
Hi Doug! Check out the latest post about the special offer for those that are booked through May 31. The offer is available from June 1 through September 30, and includes dining, so maybe you can book later and go during Food & Wine. 🙂
I agree, I hope everyone is listening to the protocols and staying safe. I have good friends who are nurses at two different hospitals and I am so frightened for them and their families. Just hoping people are staying home and staying safe.
Some in a group I am in on Facebook said Disney was opening on June 1st. I hope they are not too disappointed.
