Today everybody’s favorite mouse turns 90 years old!
Mickey Mouse has been celebrating his birthday all month long, with celebrations in different Disney Parks. On Friday, 90 Disney characters helped to open Magic Kingdom Park and kick off Mickey’s birthday weekend.
Mickey has changed a bit over the years, but the love fans have for him has continued. Guests, both young and old, love meeting Mickey Mouse in the parks. Meeting Mickey Mouse is a big deal to a lot of people. To those meeting him for the first time it’s an exciting meet and greet. I’ve heard both kids and adults squeal at the site of Mickey Mouse, because the excitement of meeting him had been building for so long.
Movies and TV
With all his appearances on the big screen and on TV, it’s understandable why people get so excited to meet him. Of course, everyone knows Steamboat Willie, which is considered the debut of Mickey Mouse, but that was just the beginning. Since Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse has starred in well over 100 movies.
On TV, the Mickey Mouse Club, which started in the 1950s, has been brought back a few times over the years and each time it introduced a new generation to the lovable mouse. There was also the popular cartoon for little ones called Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which ran for 10 years and ended in November 2016. After Mickey Mouse Clubhouse ended, Disney created the spinoff Mickey and the Roadster Racers.
Merchandise
In addition to the parks, and his appearances in the movies and on TV, there is also plenty of merchandise with Mickey’s image. From teapots, to telephones, to watches, to magnets for your car, there are so many products available with a Mickey theme. The silhouette of his head is a popular image to have on products. A lot of products incorporate the silhouette of Mickey’s head in the design. The inclusion of Mickey’s silhouette is usually subtle and made to be part of the design.
Hidden Mickeys
Another fun fact about Mickey’s silhouette is that it inspired the popular Hidden Mickey game fans play in the parks. Any time my family and I are in Disney World we are always on the lookout for Hidden Mickeys and they can be anywhere. One of the Hidden Mickeys I always look for is the one on the Haunted Mansion ride. If you look at the table in the ballroom scene you will notice that some of the plates make up a Hidden Mickey. The next time you are in the parks see how many Hidden Mickeys you can find!
So, Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!! Thanks for all the smiles you bring to people all around the world!
What’s your favorite Mickey Mouse memory?

Hi Dennis!
Thank you for your kind words, I’m happy the info is useful. 🙂 Glad you guys had a nice time! I just got back too and I’m already planning the next trip. Can’t go too long without a visit to Disney World, right? 🙂 Happy planning!
I was blessed to be in Disneyland to celebrate Mickey’s 90th Birthday. Everyone was so happy to be there. I was also lucky enough to get one of the Mickey Mouse sipper cups.
How come there wasn’t mention of Minnie, they have the same birthday? We watched a YouTube video of the Disneyland parade for Mickey and they sang to both Mickey and Minnie, though.
