As with everything else in Disney World, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ restaurant is temporarily closed. To help keep spirits up and to have some fun during quarantine, Chef Art Smith is holding weekly virtual cooking classes.
Tomorrow (Wednesday April 8) at 4 p.m. (ET) he will be holding a virtual cooking class on Instagram Live. During the class he will teach everyone how to make his favorite ice or hot tea with fruit. Plus, he’s including his famous Hummingbird Cake in the class tomorrow. You can follow him on Instagram to see the class, @TheChefArtSmith.
Homecomin’ is one of my favorite restaurants in Disney Springs. Both the drinks and the food are really good. If you like fried chicken, then you should definitely make a reservation here when they reopen. Each time I visit I tell myself that I should try something different, but I always end up getting the chicken and I’m never disappointed. Plus, they come with some delicious creamy mashed potatoes. The Church Lady Deviled Eggs are also delicious. You get a good portion, so it’s a good appetizer for sharing.
I’ve only had dessert at Homecomin’ once, but when I did I ordered the Hummingbird Cake. The picture below doesn’t do it justice, because I took it in a to-go container, but the cake is really good. It’s a pineapple-banana cake with cream cheese frosting. If you like banana bread and cream cheese then you should definitely try this cake. It was really good. It’s definitely a sharing dessert though. The slice was huge!
Check out Chef Art Smith’s Instagram tomorrow to make your own Hummingbird Cake at home! Happy baking!
