During the last trip to Disney World my friend wanted to have lunch at the Grand Floridian. We decided on the Grand Floridian Cafe, because of availability and the fact that neither of us had been there.
We enjoyed our lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It’s not the most exciting restaurant on property, but it’s a nice place to go for a quiet meal. Here’s some info about the restaurant and our experience there.
Location
The Grand Floridian Cafe is located at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. When you enter the lobby stay on the first floor and walk towards the back of the building where you should see signs for the restaurant. It is across from the courtyard and courtyard pool. The entrance to the restaurant is very open and the podium is located right at the entrance, this is where you will check-in for your reservations or see if they have an open table (if you don’t have reservations).
Decor
I’m going to be completely honest here, the decor reminded me of my grandmother’s place. The floral wallpaper is mostly to blame for that. Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Since it reminded me of my grandmother’s place it had a very comfortable and homey feeling to it. They also used different weather vanes as decorations around the restaurant, which I thought was cool. Big flower displays and the chandeliers complimented the overall feel that you get when you are at the Grand Floridian.
Seating
Our table was half chairs and half a booth style padded seat. We found both to be comfortable. The style of the chairs and the fabric on the seating complimented the overall decor of the restaurant.
Food
If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to dine at Disney World you might want to give this place a try. When I say reasonable, I mean that in comparison to other Disney prices, of course. I had the pancakes and sausage (not too exciting) and my friend, Maureen, had The Grand Cafe Sandwich. Though my pancakes and sausage don’t sound exciting I thought they were very good. Maureen also really enjoy The Grand Cafe Sandwich which is ham, roasted turkey, bacon, tomato, Boursin cheese sauce, and fried onion straws. I was a little jealous when the food came to the table, her sandwich looked very good. I guess I’ll just have to visit The Grand Floridian Cafe again and try the sandwich. The things I do for this blog.
For our drinks we went sweet and ordered the Raspberry Coladas. All I can say is…holy wow were they good! I could have ordered another one, but I restrained myself and slowly enjoyed the one drink.
We didn’t order anything off the menu for dessert, but since it was Maureen’s birthday the cast members brought a birthday cupcake to our table. Plus, I had put in an order for the Cinderella Chocolate Slipper dessert for her.
Cast Members
I always like to highlight the cast members in these reviews, because it can be a thankless job and they are always wonderful. This experience was no different. I had ordered the chocolate slipper months in advance and when we got there they did not have the order attached to our reservation. It wasn’t a problem though, because of the wonderful cast member working the podium that day. He asked me where we were sitting and made sure the chocolate slipper dessert made it to our table.
The cast members who helped us at our table were also wonderful. They were all smiles and were talking and laughing with the guests. That definitely added to the comfortable feeling we got from this restaurant.
Overall Experience
As I said in the beginning, this is not the most exciting restaurant. Disney has a lot of fun themed restaurants on property and this isn’t really one of them. However, that doesn’t mean you should skip over The Grand Floridian Cafe. It really is a great place to relax and have a meal. You’re not waiting for characters to come to the table or trying to get lots of pictures of the different props that some of the themed restaurants have in their dining room. You’re just there having a good meal and a good conversation with family, friends, and the cast members. It’s a nice break from the busy feeling that can come along with a Disney World vacation!

This sounds nice and quant, I always wanted to try it. Do other restaurants offer the chocolate slipper dessert? How far in advance do you need to order one?
Hi Dina!
It was a very nice place to have lunch and be able to chat. The Chocolate Slipper dessert is available at the Grand Floridian restaurants (white chocolate), the Contemporary restaurants (white chocolate), and at Cinderella’s Royal Table (milk chocolate). I called a couple of months in advance, but I don’t think you need that much time. They have them in the kitchens, because there was no problem bringing one to our table even though it wasn’t put on the reservation.
