During each visit to Disney World I like to try different restaurants on property. There are lots to choose from, so there is always an opportunity to try something new.
During my last trip I was finally able to try a restaurant that I have wanted to try for a while, The Wave … of American Flavors. I had heard pretty good things, so I went in with high hopes. Spoiler alert, I was not disappointed!
Location
We’ll start with the location of this restaurant. The Wave … of American Flavors is located in the Contemporary Resort, so it is a perfect place to eat when you are spending the day at Magic Kingdom, but want to escape for a bit without going too far. It’s also good if you want to start your Magic Kingdom day with a good breakfast. There is a walkway between Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary Resort that only takes about 10 minutes. So if you eat at The Wave you can walk some of that food off on your way to Magic Kingdom.
Theme/Ambiance
The wave shape plays a big part in the theme and design of this restaurant. Then entryway of the restaurant is supposed to make you feel as though you are walking through a wave that is cresting. The wave feature is used on the ceiling, the chairs, and even the napkins on the table. As someone who loves the water, I thought this was a fun theme. Disney refers to this restaurant as “casual elegance” and I think that describes it pretty well.
Food/Drink
My friend, Maureen, and I decided to go for breakfast before our Magic Kingdom day. For breakfast they have the option to choose off the menu (à la carte) or you can choose their all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast buffet. We both chose the breakfast buffet and did not regret our choice. The buffet has a great selection of food. Everyone should be able to find something at this buffet.
Here are some of the items at the buffet:
- Mickey Waffles
- Sweet Potato Pancakes
- Eggs Bendict
- Sausage
- Bacon
- Fresh Fruit
- Scrambled Eggs
- Biscuits and Gravy
- Assorted Pastries
- Smoked Salmon
- Deviled Eggs
- Yogurt Parfait
There is quite a bit to choose from, so you won’t leave hungry! Also on the menu is a good selection of beverages like tea, coffee, smoothies, juice, and what The Wave calls “Wake Up Calls” which are things like Mimosas, Bloody Marys, spiked coffees and seasonal offerings.
I ordered tea and was brought my own tea pot, so I was able to have more than one cup without having to bother the waitress. Also brought to the table was a dish with pecan-honey butter, jam, and regular butter. The pecan-honey butter was very good and goes well on top of the sweet potato pancakes.
Cast Member Interaction
All the Cast Members that we came in contact with were very friendly, which is the norm. I rarely meet an unhappy Cast Member, which is amazing given the amount of people they deal with on a daily basis. I give them a lot of credit and it’s always nice to say thank you to them for helping to make the magic.
Other Info
- The Wave … of American Flavors does take the Disney Dining Plan. My friend and I used one of our table service credits for the buffet and thought it was well worth the credit.
- Our reservation was for 8 a.m. and we found that to be a great time to go. There was only one other table with guests when we arrived and it stayed pretty quiet while we ate. It started to fill up as we were leaving, around 9 a.m.
- Take advantage of the walkway to Magic Kingdom. If you take the monorail you will have to ride the entire loop, because Magic Kingdom is the stop before the Contemporary Resort.
I would definitely recommend the breakfast at The Wave … of American Flavors. We really liked the buffet, but some of the buffet items are available on the à la carte menu too, so you can just order plates if you are not in the mood for a buffet. I recommend the sweet potato pancakes and the Eggs Benedict, they were both delicious.
I’ve heard good things about lunch and dinner at The Wave too, so that’s next to try. If you haven’t yet tried a meal here, I would put it on your list for the next trip. Our visit was great from start to finish and the food was very good!
Have you been to The Wave … of American Flavors?
Thanks for reading!

My Wife and I love the Wave. We have only had dinner there, I would definitely recommend this restaurant, we have been there at least three times and never had a bad time.
I keep hearing great things about their dinner. I think that’s going to be on my list for the next trip. 🙂
We’ve eaten there too, and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was very good too.
My sister and girl friends all LOVE the Wave brunch. The food is plentiful, flavorful, reasonably priced. The atmosphere is relaxed and calm. We make it a point to eat there at least once every trip. ❤️❤️
