This story out of Rhode Island I’m sure is not the first of it’s kind in the country, but it’s still pretty funny.
As ABC News reports, Rhode Island ended up sending out more than 175 tax refund checks with the “signatures” of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. As fun as it would be for a Disney fan to see that name on the bottom of the check, the signatures, of course, were not valid and checks could not be cashed. The state treasurer and controller are the ones that should be signing those checks.
The reason for the mishap is that those names are regularly used as signatures for test files, never meaning to be used on real checks sent out. Unfortunately, both Walt and Mickey’s test signatures were printed on real checks and it was not noticed in time. The checks have since been voided and new checks will be issued and signed by the correct people. They expect to have the check sent out within a week. The checks were mainly for businesses, not individual people. They were tax refunds for corporate, sales, and tax credits.
I’m sure it wasn’t funny for those that received the checks, but at least it’s being taken care of quickly. It is a pretty funny story though, and we can all use a good laugh these days.
Thanks for reading!
