Disney World has been reopening things in phases and one area of phased openings has been the dining locations in and around the parks. There are a lot of restaurants that have reopened, but still some remain closed, so the question is when will we get those options back?
Today, Disney announced the reopening of two more restaurants. Also included in the announcement is the return of the dinner option at a popular restaurant. It’s nice to see more options being available for guests!
Chef Mickey’s
The first restaurant discussed is already open for breakfast, but will soon have dinner back on the menu. Chef Mickey’s, which is located at the Contemporary Resort, has always been a very popular restaurant, with the characters wandering the dining room and the all-you-care-to-enjoy food. Plus, guests can watch the monorail zoom past as they dine, since the monorail runs right through the hotel.
This restaurant is no longer a buffet style restaurant, but rather a family-style restaurant. So guests will get big portions to share with the table and they can ask for as many servings as they would like.
Items on the dinner menu include:
- “Chef Mickey’s Caesar”
- Citrus-poached Shrimp Salad
- Assorted Breads
- Gnocchi
- Roasted Garlic Potato Gratin
- Plant-based Faro Wheat Fried Rice
- Prime Rib
- Roasted Turkey
- Salmon
- An Assortment of Desserts
A menu for kids will be available as well and they can choose form things like mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, turkey corn dog nuggets, and more.
Dinner returns to Chef Mickey’s on May 16.
Cape May Cafe
This restaurant is another guest favorite. Located at the Beach Club Resort, Cape May Cafe is also making the transition from buffet to family-style. Serving breakfast and dinner, guests will get to enjoy as much as they would like. Both menus have a variety of items for the table to enjoy.
Items from the Breakfast Menu
- Pastries (Including the layered crispy, cream-filled “Lobster Tail”)
- Omelets
- Mickey Mouse and Minnie Waffles
Items from the Dinner Menu
- House-made Parker House Rolls and Cornbread
- A Seafood Boil
- The Turf Platter (comes with steak and chicken)
- Lobster Mac and Cheese
The above items are highlights from the menus, it sounds like there will be more to choose from when the restaurant reopens. Bookings for Cape May Cafe open on May 7 and the restaurant officially reopens on May 18.
*Please note that Minnie’s Beach Bash Character Breakfast will not be available at reopening.
Tusker House Restaurant
This is one of the favorite restaurants in Animal Kingdom, so guests have been wondering when it will reopen. While Disney didn’t give an exact date, they did say that it will reopen this summer. This is another restaurant that will be making the change from buffet style to family-style, but will remain an all-you-care-to enjoy restaurant, so you can still get that extra helping of the items you really like. Donald Duck and friends will return in their safari attire for the reopening and guests can snap photos with them from a distance.
I’ll keep an eye out for an exact reopening date, but at least we know it will be sometime this summer!
Are you excited to see more dining options returning to Disney World?
Thanks for reading!

A step in the right direction! Still hoping O’hana and Ahkershus open soon. They need more character meals if they are expecting a lot more visitors
Agreed! I was really hoping ‘Ohana was in this announcement. Hopefully it will open soon though.
Wouldn’t it be awesome to open O’hana and complement the new renovations with Moana making appearances there?
Love that idea! She’d be a welcome addition to the character breakfast. I also wish they would give her more time in the parks.
I hope Disney Brings back the dining plan by September
