It looks like the rumor that Disney is going to build a gondola system is one step closer to an official announcement. The gondola system would be a nice addition to the Disney transportation system.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, documents from the Reedy Creek Improvement District show that Disney is indeed planning a gondola system for the property. The documents are said to show six different stations and three lines.
Here are the areas that will be linked to the gondola system:
- Hollywood Studios
- Epcot
- Caribbean Beach
- The Lakeside Area Between Pop Century and Art of Animation
The cabins will hold 10 people each and it sounds like this kind of transportation is pretty efficient. As reported in the article by the Orlando Sentinel,
The vehicles continuously circulate, arriving at stations at a frequency ranging from 10 seconds to every minute, according to a Georgetown report on the technology. As ridership increases, additional cabins can be added. Capacities range from 800 to 3,000 people per hour, per direction.
With that kind of efficiency it’s easy to see why Disney is heading in this direction. The bus system is only so fast and at certain times of day there can be some very long lines. Then of course there is the traffic to contend with. Another option for transportation would be very helpful, especially when the parks close and there’s a mad dash for the buses.
Disney has not commented on the gondola system and there is no indication as to when this project will start. With the new lands planned for Hollywood Studios (Star Wars Land opens in 2019) it makes sense to have another form of transportation to the park. Once those new lands open, Hollywood Studios is going to be a pretty popular park.
A gondola system would be a cool transportation option. I’m just hoping there will not be an extra cost to use it, but I would not be surprised if Disney decides to charge for this transportation option. Either that or the cost of staying in the three resorts on the gondola line will go up in price.
Are you excited about the gondola system becoming a reality in Disney World?
Thanks for reading!

We normally stay at the Caribbean Beach. Any idea how this will affect our costs?
Hi Kenzie!
Not sure yet. I’m hoping Disney releases an official statement on the gondola system soon with more details. I’m also hoping it won’t impact the prices of the resorts too much.
I can see Disney changing the level of the hotels that the Gondola system services. They’ll likely upgrade Caribbean Beach to a Deluxe Resort and thus charge more to stay there. We can hope it doesn’t happen but that seems to be commonplace these days.
Liz, I just love your information. I look forward to reading your daily information.
Thank you very much for your kind words, Elaine! I’m so glad you find it helpful 🙂
