Disney made the decision a while back to take out the bride auction scene in this classic ride. They decided to replace it with a different auction scene that uses a famous face from the previous scene.
When Pirates of the Caribbean closed for a refurbishment, it wasn’t just to go over the usual ride safety checks and touch up the paint. This time, Disney was redesigning an entire scene of this very popular ride. They replaced the bride auction scene with a scene auctioning off items from the townspeople.
A noticeable change with this is that the popular redhead is no longer a townsperson, but is now a pirate named Redd who pillaged the town’s rum. Now, instead of hearing the pirates yell “We wants the redhead!” listen for “We wants the rum!”
This is hardly the only change that has been made to the classic ride. Over the years Disney has added characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies to different scenes of the ride.
From the announcement on Disney Parks Blog:
Just as Walt Disney embraced and encouraged Disney Parks to “keep moving forward” since the opening of Disneyland Park in 1955, Walt Disney Imagineering has introduced many new characters at Pirates of the Caribbean attraction over the years.
I know this change caused a lot of upset, but I’m interested to see these changes in person. This is one of those rides that we look forward to experiencing on each trip.
What about you? Are you interested to see the new scene?
Thanks for reading!

The PC police strike again. Are they going to replace the swords with sticks and the guns with bananas next? Why would the town people auction off items to the pirates? That makes no sense. The pirates take what they want (pillage and plunder)!
I am interested and will see it in May when I go with my family and my grand nephews that are 3&5.
I’m interested to see it too, Donna. 🙂 Hope you and your family have a magical time when you go in May!
