Disney has been adding more security in an effort to make sure guests have a safe experience. They added metal detectors at the park entrances in December 2015 and now they are adding more security.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, metal detectors will be in use at the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) starting Monday, April 3. Bag checks will be part of the security update too. This means that guests parking at the TTC will have to go through the metal detectors and bag checks before boarding the monorail or the ferry.
Another security update beginning on Monday, April 3, will happen at the monorail resorts. Guests going through the monorail stations from the Contemporary, the Grand Floridian, and the Polynesian will also go through security.
Extra security isn’t a bad thing. I was selected to go through the metal detector almost every time I went to one of the parks during the last trip (I blame the gigantic camera bag) and I wasn’t bothered by it. Disney keeps the line moving, so it’s not a big deal to go through the metal detector.

We stay at the Bay Lake Tower and normally just walk to Magic Kingdom. Any idea how this will affect us?
Hi Kelly!
If you are walking to MK then you will just have to deal with the security at the entrance to the park. You won’t have to deal with double security
