There has been talk about Spaceship Earth getting a makeover for a while, especially with all the other enhancements going on at Epcot. Disney has now officially released information about when this will start and what the refurb will include.
Starting May 26 Spaceship Earth will be closed for what Disney is calling a “historic transformation.” The story for the classic ride will change a bit for this transformation. When the ride opens guests will see a story about humanity, from prehistoric humans to today. Disney is planning on keeping and updating some scenes to fit with the new story, as well as blending new scenes with the old scenes.
For example, Disney said guests will still be able to visit Egypt in the ride, but it will look different as it’s transformed through the power of light. There will also still be a narration for the ride, but it will be new to fit the new story.
Disney has not released a reopening date yet and probably won’t until it gets closer. Since they are reimagining the ride, I would imagine it will be a somewhat lengthy refurbishment. I’ll keep you posted as Disney releases more details.
Are you excited for this transformation of Spaceship Earth?
Thanks for reading!

We thought last spring would be our last time to ride it for a while. I was so glad when they said the refurb wouldn’t start until the end of May. We will be there the first week in May, so we get one last trip with the old ride!
Hope it is done by summer 2021!
Cannot wait to come to Disney with our family this coming Saturday. The Disney countdown days has been a great addition to our experience planning a trip. Love to look at it everyday. The new World Showcase will be a stunner I’m sure. See you soon…..
