I am getting such a kick out of this latest project!!
My son had asked me to “make” him a Luke Skywalker doll. Literally the next day I was at Costco and found a Star Wars character crochet kit. How serendipitous! Like I said, I found mine at Costco. But if you go to amazon or ebay and search “star wars crochet kit”, you’ll find it.
The kit includes an instructional book by Lucy Collin, a yarn needle and materials needed to make one Yoda doll and one Stormtrooper doll. The book itself includes instructions for 12 favorite Star Wars characters: Yoda, Stormtrooper, C-3PO, Princess Leia, Wicket the Ewok, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett & Jabba the Hutt. FUN!
I have never really made crochet dolls before and I have to give credit where credit was due. The book is fantastic. It has lots of photos of stitches and techniques, along with easy to follow instructions. To be completely honest I’m a visual learner, if there was a stitch or concept I was unfamiliar with I went to youtube and looked up a tutorial. Maybe it’s because I’m new to doll making, but I found this required a fair amount of concentration on my part. The stitches for Luke were simple enough, but I found that I had to pay close attention while counting my rounds. Definitely not something I could have done in front of the TV.
All in all for a first attempt I think he came out just fine. Although in fairness there are probably several mistakes in there. :0) My little one has now asked me to make him Darth Vader. Honestly, Yoda is my favorite and I can’t wait to try making him!! I foresee several DIY holiday gifts coming up this year!
