I won’t keep you in suspense, it’s here to stay! It sounds as if the test of the photo opportunity was very successful and Disney has decided to keep it around.
This decision is not really surprising after seeing the line of people waiting to have their picture taken with the lantern. For a lot of PhotoPass pictures, unless there is a character involved, there isn’t usually much of a line. The lantern photo, however, is a different story. People willingly waited in line to have their picture taken at this fun Tangled theme PhotoPass stop. Can’t say I blame them. I would totally wait in line too.
Originally, there was an end date for this photo opportunity. Disney said March 15 would be the last day. This made some people who were not traveling before that date sad, because they were missing out on it. The popularity of the lantern photo clearly wasn’t lost on Disney. Which is why Disney announced that the photo op will be available until further notice.
So the next time you are in Magic Kingdom, make sure to head over to the Tangled themed area around dusk. I’m hoping some Magic Shots get added to the lantern photo opportunity too. They could have some fun with the Tangled characters mixed into the photos.

I was at MK March 7, due to having to wait until dark, and a 9 pm close, I had to choose between lantern photo and fireworks because the queue was so very long! I had checked at 6:30 and nothing was happening. We decided to go on Small World and checked again ( 7ish)… line was down near Haunted Mansion.
With the limited time window and popularity of the photo op, it would be nice if Disney had more than one going at a time. Since there are no issues about seeing the same characters together, it would be possible.
Regardless, my priority was for Wishes… so maybe another time…

It’s nice that is sticking around, so you can stop by it next time you are in the Magic Kingdom. I’m glad they decided to keep it 🙂 And I agree, hopefully they will add another line for the lantern so people don’t have to wait so long.
