Disney has been making a lot of (welcome) additions to the My Disney Experience app. Another new feature will soon be available and it will make checking in even easier.
Disney has announced that a digital key feature will be coming to the app. This new feature will give guests the ability to open their hotel door with their phone, which means skipping the front desk all together. There will be a way to activate the feature through the app on the date of check-in. After completing the set up process guests will be able to unlock their hotel room door by pressing “Unlock Door” and holding their phone up to the door lock.
It sounds like it’s going to be pretty easy to use. Plus, it’s not just going to unlock the hotel room door. This feature will also be able to unlock the hotel entrance gate and other areas requiring keys for access, which can include pools, fitness centers, elevators and club lounges.
To use this feature, phones have to be Bluetooth-enabled and have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app. The Wilderness Lodge will be the first to offer this feature, with other hotels added over time.
Disney didn’t say when this new feature will be available, but keep your eyes open for an app update. We’ll see if it’s like the Mobile Order feature and other hotels get added quickly. Either way, it’s nice to see Disney continuing to improve the app!
What do you think of this new feature?
Thanks for reading!

I don’t see the point. Isn’t that what the magic band is for? You have that on your wrist. You don’t have to have your phone out and open to the app. Seems like a step backward to me.
Hi, any news if free Disney Dining will be available for bookings next year?
Thanks. X
Hi Susan!
Not that I have heard, but I’ll post once I hear something.
By the end of the day, our phone batteries are usualy dead. I’ll stick with the magic band thank you!
LOL! Good point, Victoria! I didn’t even think about that. 🙂
I hope that everyone continues to voice their opinions about the charging for overnight parking. Please email GUEST.SERVICES@DISNEYWORLD.com or you can call 14079347940. Please continue to voice your opinions against this unnecessary fee. Hopefully we can reverse this decision.
Everyone gets to park for free except for the people that are staying in the resorts that are driving. It’s almost you are being punished for driving.
