Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom reopened this past weekend and soon Epcot and Hollywood Studios will reopen. On July 15, guests will be welcomed back to the last two theme parks.
Before closing the parks, the newest ride at Hollywood Studios, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, was extremely popular. Disney created a virtual queue for this ride specifically to help with the large crowds that were anticipated. This turned out to be a good idea, because the crowds gathered to try to get a spot in the queue were crazy. My friends and I experienced it right before the shutdown and the crowd was huge. Everyone gathers in front of the entrance to the land and waits for the park to open to get a spot. It was amusing to see how quiet it got once the park officially opened and everyone was frantically trying to get a spot in the queue.
While this was helpful, it also made it so all times were gone within the first few minutes of the park opening. Not sure if Disney was hearing complaints or if they decided to make changes due to the current situation, but there is a change coming to the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Now Disney is going to stagger queue times throughout the day. There will be three different distribution times: 10 a.m., 1 p.m, and 4 p.m. So if you can’t get to the park right at the opening time there will still be a couple of chances to grab a slot, as availability allows. Also, with the reduced crowds, hopefully it won’t be as crazy when trying to reserve a spot in the queue.
What to Know About Reserving a Spot in the Queue
- Make sure you have the My Disney Experience app downloaded on your phone. This is the most important part, because this is where you will be making your reservation.
- Once in the app, choose “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue” on the home screen. This is where you will find out if there is availability for the queue.
- Make sure everyone is linked together in the My Disney Experience app, so you can reserve a spot for everyone.
- Everyone in your party must have tickets linked to their account.
- Push notifications should be turned on for My Disney Experience. This way you will be notified when it is your turn to ride.
- Each guest will only be able to ride once per day. This limit is set in order to give as many guests as possible have the chance to ride it.
