Tuesday’s Tip: Christine Discusses How to Eat and Drink Your Way Around Disney Springs for Under $30 a Person

It’s time for another Tuesday’s Tip from a Dream Makers Travel Agency vacation planner! This week Christine Maritz is giving tips on how to spend less money while eating and drinking at Disney Springs.

Christine travels to Disney World often. She’s also done multiple runDisney events. She’s run the Wine & Dine, multiple races during Marathon Weekend, and even completed the Coast to Coast Challenge with the Dumbo Double Dare.

Without further ado, here is Christine’s tip for this week!

Let’s be honest.  There are so many restaurants at Disney Springs it is really hard to pick just one! Like…. really hard.  My boyfriend and I spent an afternoon in Disney Springs and decided to check out the Happy Hours that were offered.  We were able to try STK, Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar and the new restaurant, Terralina. We were excited to try different food items and drinks along the way.

First up, STK

It was a Tuesday at the end of August, and the restaurant was pretty empty.  We were able to get seats at the bar. We have dined here before on a weekend and it was packed.  There was a DJ playing and people everywhere; it had a very NYC vibe about it.

Happy Hour was very different. It was quiet and easy to have a conversation.  We ordered drinks at 50% off. He got the “Not your Daddy’s Manhattan” and I had a glass of rosé. My wine was crisp and light. My boyfriend’s cocktail was strong and flavorful and he loved it. I know he will definitely go back again and order it.

For food, we split the chopped Caesar salad. The dressing was great and the croutons seemed homemade and were big, crunchy and well seasoned.  We also had a slider with truffles waffle fries. Both were amazing!!! The fries were covered in Parmesan cheese and did not even need ketchup! Our total price for all of this was $25.65 before tip.

Next up, Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar

Who is Jock Lindsay you ask? Well, he is the pilot in Indiana Jones.  He was on the screen for a very short period of time, yet this themed restaurant has really taken off!  

The inside bar was full and many of the tables and booths were also full. We went to the outside bar and found a seat.  This bar offers you a great view of the water and a little area next to The Boathouse that features live music at night. It was too early for the music but in the past we have sat there sipping drinks and singing along to some great songs.  

Here we decided to both get a beer and both ordered the Old Elephant IPA, Tampa Bay Brewing. We love to try local brews when we travel and this was a good one! The special was $6.50 for this particular beer. We paired it with a HUGE pretzel ($8) that came with mustard and beer cheese.  The pretzel had a lot of seeds on it which made a mess but were delicious! All together, our tab was $22.37.

We took our beers in to go cups and walked over to a couple shops while we finished our drinks. We walked passed Terralina, a new restaurant in Disney Springs. It is where Portobello used to be and is right next door to Paddlefish.  We saw their sign said happy hour until 6 so we knew we had about 25 minutes before we had to get back to order our drinks.

Final Stop, Terralina

We made it back to Terralina in time.  There were two other couples that came to the bar asking if they “made it in time for Happy Hour.”  All of us did so we were all very “happy!” Terralina did not offer any food on their happy hour menu.  They did have $5 beers and ½ off wine by the glass. However, this happy hour was only at the outside bar.

If you want a meal inside in the air conditioning, this is a great place to grab a less expensive drink before you head in.  I chose a rosé and this particular rosé was more full bodied than the one at STK. It was flavorful and I enjoyed it. My boyfriend went with another local beer and chose the Swamp Head Wild Night Honey Ale, Gainesville, Florida, which he liked as well.

The bartenders were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, pointing out which dishes were great and which ones were tweaked to be better since opening 2 months ago. While we were sad they did not offer any small bites for Happy Hour, we liked the drinks and our cheap tab.  We left Terralina with a tab of $10.65 before tip.

Overall, I was impressed with the Happy Hour offerings at Disney Springs.  We both agreed it would be a good idea to hit the parks in the morning, go to Disney Springs for Happy Hour and then head back to the parks at night.  Going at this time we seemed to miss the dinner crowd, and would hope to be able to jump on a few rides while everyone else is eating dinner. We left with full bellies and money left in our pockets which is always a good thing at Disney!! Our grand total for 6 drinks and 3 small plates was $58.67 before tip!  We cannot wait to go back and explore and experience even more of the great restaurants/bars that are popping up all over Disney Springs!
