For almost a year now, guests have been wearing their masks everywhere on Disney World property. Recently, Disney World has been taking certain things (like temperature checks) away as things are slowly getting back to normal. As of last night they made a big (and welcome) change to their mask policy.
Disney updated the policy on Disney World’s website to say that masks are now optional in outdoor common areas. This is definitely a welcome change, especially considering the hot and humid weather that comes along with summer in Disney World. While guests can now stroll around the parks in outdoor common areas without masks, there are some exceptions.
In Disney World’s policy change they state that while the masks are option in outdoor common areas, they must still be worn when entering and throughout all attractions, theaters, and transportation. This means that if an attraction queue or a theater is outside guests have to wear masks. Still, it’s nice that once guests have exited the attraction and are back in a common area the mask can come off. I think that will help with the amount of times guests have been changing out masks during the day, which is nice.
Below is the policy as it was updated last night.

Are you glad to see this change coming in time for summer in Disney World?
Thanks for reading!

Super happy! We followed the science for over a year and wore the masks. Now the dynamics have changed and the science says we can move on a bit. And will be ready to move forward again when the science says to do so! I am so much more looking forward to our august trip! Hoping restaurants and fire works will be back soon
I can’t wait for fireworks and the rest of dining room return either! Hopefully soon.
I hope it is a short stair step approach to making them completely optional everywhere, but this is a good step forward. They really need to get fast passes going again before anything else. More people will be looking to go knowing they wont have to wear masks all day.
I’m curious too when FastPasses will be making a return. If they’re increasing capacity in the parks then hopefully we’ll see FastPasses return sooner rather than later. I’d even welcome the old way of doing FPs and just make them available the day of in the parks. I still have some paper FastPasses from back in the day when you had to get a printed FastPass.
