This was definitely a scary ride for those in the monorail car!
A few days ago a guest traveling on Disney World’s monorail red recorded a couple of videos showing a dangerous situation that occurred on board. One side of the door was able to close, but the other side remained fully opened during the ride to Epcot.
Obviously, everyone stayed back during the ride, but I know I would be freaking out if that happened. Talk about a major safety concern. Thank goodness no one was injured!
I know the monorail system has been undergoing renovations for a while now, but it seems as though Disney needs to give the whole system a major upgrade. Safety of the guests and cast members is of course very important to Disney, so I’m sure they addressed this safety concern right away.
While I love all the additions that are coming to Walt Disney World (the Skyliner, new attractions at Epcot and Magic Kingdom, new lands at Hollywood Studios, the immersive Star Wars hotel) I’m thinking more time and money needs to be put into things that are already there, like the monorail system, but that’s just my opinion.
Here’s a look at the videos that were posted to Instagram:
Scary, right? I’m sure Disney was on this right after they heard what happened, but let’s hope this doesn’t happen again.

Liz i agree I love all things Disney myself and all the new things are exciting but I feel it may be at the expense of their high standards. I have noticed a number of things below standard on my last few trips this last year.
Me too, Sandy. It makes me sad when I see that. 🙁
I too am a disneyphile, but I have noticed things too. Some changes are not for the better. Some things in the park need attention too.
Is there an alarm or something that tells the driver that all the doors are not closed.
Just asking?
Debbie
I was wondering that too, Debbie. Maybe that was broken too? You would think that would be a standard safety feature.
