Today’s Daily Dose of Disney is a bit of a throwback to something Disney World used to offer on the website.
Disney World’s website once had an option where guests could customize maps of the parks. These maps would be mailed to the guest’s home after customization was complete. The maps were printed on thicker paper and they were pretty big, which was a nice feature. On the website guests could include the rides they wanted to experience and leave off things they did not want to do. So it was truly customized to the experience the guest wanted.
The designs of the maps were very cute. There were a couple of different options available, the character design and the classic design. These are the classic design, but both are cute. Another thing about the maps that is nice is that they are big. They are bigger than the maps that you get in the parks, which makes it easier to see everything. Of course, these are old maps, because they stopped offering this feature on the website around the end of 2014. So since the maps are a little older, you can see all the changes that have been made in the parks (not so much Epcot, but definitely in the other three parks). It’s cool to look at the layouts of the parks and compare them to the most recent maps I have.
Also included was a letter, as well as suggestions and tips for your trip. The letter mentions stickers that also come in the envelope. Those stickers can be used to mark the areas you want to visit and there’s a star sticker that says “My Resort,” so you can put that one on your resort. This was such a fun way to plan for your trip and they make a good keepsake.
When I found these there was also an old printout from our stay at Pop Century in September 2011. The total cost for our room for three days was $294.75 (just room, no tickets). I checked the cost for those same days for the same type of room (no tickets) in September 2020 and it is now $722.25. I know it’s nine years apart, but it’s still a little shocking to see how much it went up.
It’s too bad Disney does not offer the map option anymore. I’m excited I found these though. My next quarantine project will be framing these. 🙂
Did you ever order the customized maps?
Thanks for reading!

Was sad when they stopped doing this it was a pre trip teaser
I agree, Mary. This was such a nice way to get excited for the trip.
I loved these things. It made it more fun to plan our trips. I miss them.
I loved those maps and was sorry to see them go. Fortunately I saved the maps that I customized.
I had those maps once. Still do. Nice.
